Kiri Pritchard-Mclean:- Victim, Complex 4**** - One4Review

Kiri Pritchard-Mclean:- Victim, Complex 4****

| On 24, Aug 2018

For her latest Fringe offering Ms Pritchard-McLean, resplendent in a bright yellow bodysuit complete with a cape takes to her stage filled with self-righteous anger and a story to tell, one that is illustrated via two hard to source retro overhead projectors, skilfully operated by James Allen sitting on a skateboard.
Her story is very personal to her, so much so she originally considered not doing it at all, but decided to go ahead and I think everyone who witnessed to show will be glad she did.
The story is how her long term boyfriend not only cheated on her throughout the relationship, but ‘gas lighted’ her, a term I was unaware of but means, when you are suspicious of things in a relationship but the other person constantly tells you that you are crazy, and drives one to doubt their own sanity.
Not maybe the lightest or topics for a comedy hour, but Kiri treads the fine line well, seriously disturbing topics and mental health issues , yet getting ample humour and laughs out of the situation. She refuses to be thought of as a victim, hell no. She tells her story with passion and feeling.
If life gives you lemons she says, make lemonade. Become a self-carbonator. I think everyone who see this performance would agree that she has achieved that. Watch out Mr Schweppes.
