Rachel Fairburn : The People’s Princess 4**** - One4Review

Rachel Fairburn : The People’s Princess 4****

| On 20, Aug 2019

Rachel is a working class lass from Yorkshire. We are told this very early on in the show. Like we never would have guessed! Class is explored as a topic, along with ageism, and what is expected of a single woman in her late thirties.

Rachel appears to have quite a few fans in the audience who have returned and possibly have seen some of her popular podcasts.

There is a theme to the show: The People’s Princess, and that as you might imagine, is Princess Diana. Her life, her loves and her unfortunate and untimely death. Rachel is brutally honest when recalling a sexual experience which made her feel closer to the late Princess and to consider the many similarities and amazing coincidences that they share. The Princess has been dead for twenty two years and so perhaps there is a vacancy for a lass from Yorkshire to lay claim to the title.

It’s a barmy concept for an hour’s stand up, granted. But somehow Rachel manages to thread the whole theme together in her conversational style and with much natural charm.

Rachel Fairburn is a breath of fresh air in a sea of new posh middle class female comedians. The Fringe is awash with post Fleabag posh potty mouthed rebels. The confessional style is the same but the accent is very different.

Recommended.
