Superhero Academy – Environmental Adventure! – 5*****

| On 20, Aug 2019

“Awesome” was the verdict of my nine year old, and from the happy faces and queue for photos afterwards, she wasn’t alone in that opinion.

This was part ‘training camp’ part lesson in being environmentally friendly, and all lots of fun for the young trainees, who were encouraged but allowed to take joining in at their own pace, and some of the initially shy did slip quietly into the group when they felt comfortable.

There was a talking computer, two people training the junior eco-warriors, and a number of puppets helping explain things – from a homeless orangutan to talking recycling bins.

Topics included ice caps, deforestation, oceans, city litter and pollution, and simple ways to help at home, and the methods of getting the children learning included dancing, putting things in the right bins, rescuing sea creatures, turning out lights, building with eco-bricks, and playing at being cars.

There were songs, Superhero catchphrases, and a lot of energy in this show. It may not challenge the knowledge of those who are already fairly environmentally aware, but it did put it all into a wider context, and certainly seemed to encourage the young superheroes to do their bit. Greta Thunberg would be proud.
