I first saw Emmanuel Sonubi during Fringe 22 and was rather impressed and thought it was only justice that he was nominated for Best Newcomers Award. I’m sure he was too, but he is too humble to mention it…much!

Straight into his hour this time, starting with some well executed crowd work, he is off and running with a myriad of stories based on and around his job, previous and current and has a whole bunch of stories, laugh loaded throughout to illustrate and entertain.

Sonubi has the physique of a bouncer, but claims not to work out, he has a penchant for Musical Theatre, even performing professionally, had worked in IT, and now of course a stand-up career of note, TV appearance, corporate gigs and a sell-out show the night I attended.

The stories include giving up drinking…ish, Florida customs, his kids, gym stories, his musical theatre interpretations are just a few stopping off points.

Whether it is partly down to his musical theatre training I don’t know, Emmanuel ‘owns’ his stage, his delivery is top notch. He has it all to be a major star and even adds yet another talent to his repertoire during the closing minutes.
